A couple weeks ago we hit the Houston Zoo, it was a gray, humid, warm (but not hot) day. And it didn't rain on us. It sure looked like it was going too but it didn't. Which I think actually worked in our favor because the zoo was not crowded at all.
Ethan played hooky from school that day because he'd been up all night coughing the night before and we weren't sure if it was going to develop into something more or not. It didn't, probably just allergies or something.
You can tell in the pictures how gray it was because the pictures all have a blue-ish tint to them.
{And I didn't feel like trying to fix it.}
A fun new attraction is a short 4D Dora and Diego movie that's pretty interactive, it had real bubbles and smelled like bananas and the rain forest (like the car freshener trees) at certain times and the 'wind' would blow and the seats would shake and water would spray on you during the movie. Some kids found that part more exciting than others. I was totally cracking up at one little girl who SCREAMED through the whole thing, she hated it. Before you think I'm totally heartless, her own parents were cracking up at her too. Poor kid, she'll hate Dora and Diego forever! Ethan and Abby loved it though.
There were two baby elephants, Abby was SO excited to see the, "babies!!!! SOOO cuuuute!"
The "big, big, big komomo" dragon, according to Abby this was the "mama komomo dragon".
I'm not sure why she thinks all the BIG animals are the mama's.
Hhhhhmmmm, trying to not take that personally.
My monkeys looking at the monkeys...
He's a cute Ape---let's take him home with us!
The baby orangutan was so cute and funny, with some serious crazy hair going on! A "zoo" lady said that the mama fixes the baby's hair like that every morning.
This "mama" was not the actual mom of the baby, but she and baby bonded. Apparently orangutans are not social animals. But this girl and the baby took to each other after the Mom couldn't take care of the baby. And did you know orangutans live to be about 50 or 60?
You can't really see it but Ethan is taking a picture of the orangutans with Abby's camera she got for Christmas. She insisted on bringing it to the zoo so she could, "take pictures of all the aminals". She and Ethan got some good shots actually, I should upload some of those...
Playing Peek a boo!
We see you!!!
Ethan and Abby were so excited to see the Lions, Abby did her best impersonation of a Lion. She's got a pretty good ROAR but it didn't seem to phase this guy too much.
The kids and the parents all agreed it was a fun day at the zoo!
